FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you have to be Catholic or Ukrainian to attend IC?

No.  Immaculate Conception welcomes students from all backgrounds.  All students receive instruction in the Catholic faith, attend Divine Liturgy (mass), and study the Ukrainian language and culture (as part of our dual-foreign language program).  As an international school, our families hail from throughout the Metro Detroit area and around the world.  We are blessed to have parishioners from a variety of parishes from as close as across the street to as far as Rochester and Dearborn.

Is there a dress code?

Yes!  All students, in Preschool through 8th Grade, wear uniforms.  We wear our pride on our sleeve.  IC's uniform dress code is explained in detail in our handbook.

What is your homework policy?

Immaculate Conception is proud to utilize a traditional curriculum in our classrooms.  This includes nightly homework.  Homework is assigned in each class on most nights to help students practice concepts introduced in class, allow the teacher to monitor student learning, and reinforce lessons.

How long is the school day?

All students in Preschool and Grades K-8 must arrive to class by 7:45A.  Our day begins and concludes with prayer.  Students are dismissed at 3:15P.

Does IC offer day care?

Immaculate Conception's Preschool program is an academic program designed to be a positive first-school experience for 3 & 4 year olds.  All children enrolling in our Preschool must be potty-trained (no pull-ups).  We do not offer day care or "drop-in" programming.

Do you offer hot lunch?

Yes. IC provides a daily hot lunch program (full days only) and we are pleased to feature homemade meals.  A monthly calendar is sent home for preview and ordering.  Students may purchase monthly or daily and choose a full meal or buy a la carte.  Additionally, IC makes time in our day for morning snack.  Parents are asked to send in a small, healthy snack from home for students to enjoy.

Is there a latchkey program?

IC assesses the needs of our parents annually.  For families that need a little more time to get to IC from work or home, in case of emergencies, and to help parents with work/life balance, IC offers an after-school program until 5:30P, Monday through Friday for students in Preschool and grades K-8.  Fees are charged per child, per day and billed weekly.

Do you have a tuition assistance program?

All new families are eligible for our Welcome Scholarship.  See the Main Office for details.

As a Catholic school registered with the Archdiocese of Detroit, families with students attending Immaculate Conception are eligible to apply for aid from the AoD Tuition Assistance Program.  To learn more, visit the Archdiocese of Detroit website.

Members of our founding parishes, Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church -- Hamtramck and St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church -- Warren, are eligible for tuition discounts.  Please see the Main Office for details.

How do we register?

Stop by the Main Office for registration materials.  All students must provide birth and baptismal certificates, proof of immunization and parents driver's license or proof of residency as well as complete a transcript request to be sent to the student's previous school.

International students must present translated copies of all required documents.

IC is pleased to offer rolling admissions -- students may enroll at any time of the year, not just at the beginning of a marking period.

How can we see if IC is the place for our family?

IC features a new, regulation junior college-sized gymnasium that our students use for physical education classes, gatherings, programs, and recess in inclement weather.

Our "big gym" is equipped with retractable bleachers, batting cage, dividing net, concession stand, and men's & women's locker rooms.  We can accommodate everything from league play and tournaments, to office teams and extra courts for other local venues.

Set on 17 lush acres, we also have diamonds for baseball & softball as well as soccer fields, all serviced by our outdoor concession stand.

How can I request a copy of my Immaculate Conception Ukrainian High School transcripts?

As a courtesy, Immaculate Conception can provide a copy of high school transcripts, when needed.  Transcripts can only be issued to the former student (unofficial) or, at the student's request, official transcripts may be forwarded to the post-secondary school or employer of their choice.  To make a request, please contact the Main Office.  You will need to provide your name (including maiden name, if applicable), date of graduation, and forwarding information.
